Alberta Goose Cam

A live wildlife camera stream featuring Canadian geese in Alberta.

Goose Cam provides a live video stream of Canadian geese in their natural Alberta habitat. Part wildlife observation, part meditation aid, and entirely honk-filled.

What It Is

A simple single-purpose site that does one thing well: lets you watch geese. No accounts, no paywalls, no algorithmic recommendations—just geese doing goose things. Swimming, honking, being aggressively territorial, the usual.

The camera runs seasonally when the geese are around, capturing whatever chaos unfolds on a local pond. Sometimes that’s a dozen geese peacefully floating. Sometimes it’s a full-on territorial dispute. The geese don’t follow a script.

Technical Setup

The stream runs through YouTube Live, which handles the transcoding and distribution. The camera itself is a weather-resistant IP camera connected to a small server that manages the stream encoding and uptime monitoring.

(The fact that I spent more time engineering reliable goose surveillance than some people spend on their home security systems is… probably fine.)

Why Geese?

If you’ve spent any time around Canadian geese, you know they’re fascinating creatures—beautiful, graceful, and absolutely unhinged when they feel like it. They’ll peacefully share a pond with ducks one moment and chase a full-grown human the next.

Also, I built a Canada Goose Simulator for the emulator project, which involved researching goose behavior extensively. At some point, the research became the hobby.
